Coaching

Somebody in your corner who has done it.

One-to-one, online, anywhere in the world. No rehab, no meetings, no steps, and nobody calling you a word you don't accept.

Peer recovery coaching, not medical or mental health treatment.

Every number, on the page

What it costs

The industry you're afraid of getting sucked into is the one that won't tell you a number until you're on the phone with a salesperson. So here are all of mine.

Free

The free 15 minutes

15 minutes, video or voice

  • You say out loud what's going on, most people for the first time
  • I ask the three or four questions you've been avoiding
  • I tell you honestly whether I'm any use to you
  • If you'd be better off with a doctor or a therapist, I say so

There is nothing to buy at the end of it.

$95

One session

60 minutes

  • We don't do your life story
  • We build the next two weeks, specifically
  • What you're doing tonight, and at the thing on Saturday
  • What you say when someone asks why you're not drinking

One session is one session. It helps, and plenty of people take one useful thing away and go and use it. But drinking doesn't come apart in an hour, and if you already know that, buy the thirty days instead.

$340

The first 30 days

Four weekly sessions

  • Four sessions, 60 minutes each
  • Me on WhatsApp between them, for the actual moments
  • A written first-month plan after session one, one page, specific

The commitment is the product. Someone who has booked four sessions shows up to session three on the week they most want to cancel, and that week is where the work happens.

$890

The 90 days

Twelve weekly sessions

  • Twelve sessions, 60 minutes each
  • WhatsApp between all of them
  • One emergency call you can trigger whenever you need it
  • The plan rewritten at day 30 and day 60

Ninety days of this costs less than three months of drinking. I've done that sum with clients and it has never once been close.

Paying monthly costs $100 more, because that way I'm carrying the risk instead of you. Pick whichever one you'll actually stick to.

Prices are in US dollars and they're the same wherever you live. If money is the real barrier, say so on the free call. I keep a couple of reduced-rate spots and I'm not going to make you prove anything to get one.

Refunds. If you buy a package, do the first session, and think this isn't for you, tell me and I'll refund the rest. No form, and no conversation about it unless you want one.

Cancelling. 24 hours notice, and one free pass. At some point you'll want to cancel a session, and it will almost certainly be the week you most need it. I'll give you that one, and then I'll ask you why.

What a session is actually like

We don't do your life story and we don't do your childhood. Sixty minutes, and most of it is spent on the next two weeks, in detail.

What you're doing tonight at six. What you're doing at the thing on Saturday where everyone drinks. What you actually say out loud when somebody asks why you're not having one, so that you have a sentence ready instead of inventing one under pressure with a glass being handed to you.

Then underneath that, slowly: what you're reaching for when you reach for it. It is almost never the taste. It's the end of the workday, or the silence, or twenty minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Whatever that is, it's the real thing, and it's still going to be there on day one.

Who I turn away

Publishing this costs me money and it is the most useful thing on the page.

  • Anybody showing signs of physical dependence, until they've seen a doctor. No exceptions, including when they want to buy.
  • Anybody who needs a diagnosis, a prescription, or detox. That's a doctor.
  • Anybody whose real problem is underneath the drinking and bigger than it. That's a therapist, and I'll say so.
  • Anybody who has been sent by somebody else and doesn't want to be here. I can't do anything with that and I won't take the money.
  • Anybody wanting couples work, a court report, or a letter for an employer.

The rule I don't break

If somebody shows signs of physical dependence, the only thing I sell them is "go and see a doctor". No exceptions, including when they want to buy.

Before you buy anything, read this

If you drink every day and you drink a lot, stopping suddenly on your own can be dangerous. Not unpleasant. Dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal can cause seizures and a condition called delirium tremens, and people die from it every year, including people who thought they were fine because they were still going to work.

If you shake in the morning, sweat through the sheets, feel sick until the first drink, or have ever had a fit when you cut down, talk to a doctor or go to an emergency department before you stop. A doctor will not be shocked. They see this every week, and there is medication that makes those first days safe.

I'm a coach, not a doctor. I'll work alongside your doctor happily, and if you need one first I'll tell you that instead of taking your money.

Questions people ask before booking

How much does it cost?

The first fifteen minutes are free and there is nothing to buy at the end of them. After that: one session is $95 for sixty minutes, the first thirty days is $340 for four weekly sessions plus WhatsApp in between plus a written plan, and ninety days is $890 for twelve weekly sessions plus WhatsApp plus one emergency call you can trigger whenever you need it. Prices are in US dollars and they are the same wherever you live.

What happens on the free call?

Two minutes of what's going on, five minutes of me asking the three or four questions you have been avoiding, three minutes of an honest read, three minutes of what working together would actually look like, and two minutes of me telling you to think about it and that I won't chase you. Camera off is completely fine and a lot of people pick that for the first one. It ends at fifteen minutes, on time, which is itself a demonstration of the thing you'd be hiring me for.

Will you try to sell me something on the call?

No, and not because I'm being noble about it. A pitch to somebody in your position would be a disgusting way to make a living, and it also doesn't work: people in denial can smell a close from a mile off and it confirms everything they already suspected about this industry. If I think I can help, I'll say what that looks like and what it costs, once. Then you go away and think.

What if I'm physically dependent?

Then I won't sell you anything, including when you want to buy. The only thing I'll tell you is to see a doctor first, because stopping suddenly when your body has adapted to alcohol can cause seizures and can kill you, and there is routine medication that makes those first days safe. Once the medical part is handled I'm glad to work alongside your doctor. That is a fixed rule and it has no exceptions.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Buy a package, do the first session, and if you think this isn't for you, tell me and I'll refund the rest. No form and no conversation about it unless you want one. I'd rather give money back than have somebody sitting in a package they've mentally left.

Is this confidential?

Yes. Sessions are not recorded. I don't keep notes beyond what I need to be useful to you next time, and I don't share anything with anybody. There's no list you get added to without asking. If you take the check on this site, those answers never leave your browser at all, which is why the result appears without an email box in front of it.

What if I relapse?

Then you tell me and we look at what happened. It is information, not a failure and not a reason for a speech. The people who do best are the ones who tell me on the Saturday instead of disappearing for three weeks and coming back apologising. Nothing you can say will make me think less of you, mostly because I have done all of it myself.

I answer WhatsApp myself. Usually within a few hours, always within a day, and it's me typing.

Nothing to buy.
